in-house bench testing and trialling workspace
BIOGENIE Remediation UK Limited has an in-house bench testing and trialling workspace that we use to develop our remediation designs, optimise treatment processes and provide the detailed data required to gain regulatory agreements. Our laboratory is equipped with a range of standard test equipment, and we are able to design and manufacture trial equipment if that is appropriate for a specific site. On completion of a trial we provide a detailed report including discussion of the results in the context of the conceptual site model and the proposed remedial target values. Trials previously undertaken by BIOGENIE include:

- Stabilisation/solidification bench trials to identify cost-effective binder mixes to achieve the required remedial target values. We have a full range of sample preparation and chemical/physical testing equipment and experience of managing a wide range of contaminants/soil types including heavily (>30 wt% TPH) hydrocarbon contaminated soil, silts, waste-water sludges and PFAS contaminated soil.
- Heating trials to assess the performance of thermal treatment technologies including both furnace step-tests and scaled in-situ heating elements to inform the design of full-scale projects.
- Mesocosm trials to demonstrate the performance of bioremediation on difficult to treat matrices such as recalcitrant organic compounds.
- Bespoke electro-kinetic water treatment trials to assess the performance of the technology and inform full-scale designs. This trial work progressed to a successful full-scale remediation project to treat a dissolved-phase metals groundwater plume.
- A range of bench-based trials to assess groundwater and NAPL remediation technologies including chemical oxidation, flocculation/coagulation, NAPL mobility, reverse osmosis and ion exchange, using both industry standard protocols and bespoke trials, as appropriate to the site-specific setting.
- Bespoke air emissions trials to assess potential emissions rates during excavation and treatment of high-risk materials, which can be used to inform air-dispersion models and the design of full-scale emissions abatement.
If a trial might be appropriate for your site, we are happy to review the existing site information and provide a detailed technical scope and cost for the trial, including support with regulatory discussions if appropriate.
