Thermally Enhanced NAPL Recovery
Free-phase contaminants, particularly viscous NAPLs, are often recalcitrant and challenging to remove. To address this issue, we have developed and implemented solutions using closed and open loop heating systems. These systems effectively reduce NAPL viscosities, enabling recovery in significantly shorter timescales compared to conventional technologies.

contaminants
- Dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs)
- Light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs)
Techniques
- Closed loop heating systems: Circulating heated fluids to reduce NAPL viscosity.
- Open loop heating systems: Directly applying heat to the subsurface to mobilise NAPLs.
Selection Criteria
- Type and viscosity of the NAPL
- Depth and spread of contamination
- Site accessibility and environmental conditions
