Chadwell Heath
Former Muller Dairy site

Relevance to this project
Bulk earthworks, obstruction removal, management of soils containing asbestos, installation of working platforms, dewatering.
Quality Standards and Target Performance Levels
Compliance with Remediation Strategy and Series 600-based Earthworks Specification.
The Problem
Former Muller Dairy site demolished to ground level required remediating to allow for development of an industrial/business park. The dairy had been built over an old landfill and all obstructions needed removal to allow for installation of the foundations for the new development.
The Solution
Demolition of remaining structures. Break out existing hard surfacing, foundations and obstructions including reinforced concrete slabs, tanks, piles, basements and asphalt and process for re-use in the pile mats for the site development. Remediation of former landfill materials as encountered to allow re-use of materials wherever possible. Treatment of contaminated groundwater during site clearance works and during groundworks to allow discharge to foul sewer under license. Backfilling around large underground attenuation tanks and construction of stabilized access routes into the site for follow on construction works.
The contaminated soils were treated via bioremediation & 100% of the material was beneficially re-used in the site landfill restoration scheme post treatment.
The Result

A site ready for follow on foundation installation and construction works filled to the required formation levels and required bearing pressures. Service corridors cleared of obstructions and stabilized access routes constructed to each development area.
